Turn Your Swag On (please?)

Turn Your Swag On (please?)

There are certain fashion rules that have not been physically written, but for years have been put into place. Rules such as not wearing white after Labor Day, or not wearing socks with open-toed shoes. These rules should be common sense to someone who has any kind of eyesight, but it has come to the light that a lot of people get dressed in the dark…every morning…or at least that’s what it seems like. Calm down to the reader who is getting offended because they’re apart of the guilty party! I have come up with an entire fashion “To-Do & To Don’t Do” list. A list consisting of what to wear for a certain season, or to a certain event. I will try to cover both parties as far as females and males but if I leave something out or if you decide to inform me about another fashion tip, just click the highlighted links and shoot me an email!

  1. DON’T wear clothes that don’t fit your body type

This one could go for both genders, but females usually have the biggest issue with it. Ladies, just because they made that cute pencil skirt in your size, doesn’t mean that it’s for your body size. That sounds very crass I must agree but since your mother won’t tell you, I will. It’s a cruel world out there, and people will laugh on the side before they man up to tell you it just doesn’t look right on you. So get out of your feelings and take notes! It is a huge DON’T and should be put to a stop!

  1. DO plan the night before & make sure to check the weather

There is nothing worse than thinking you’re going to wear a cute pair of heels or your nicest pair of Jordan’s, just to walk outside and its pouring raining. Making sure you’re dressed according to the season is definitely checked off on the DO list!

  1. DON’T wear the wrong undergarments

This is a huge NO-NO for men and women. If you have on a strapless dress, exactly why is your pink push-up bra straps noticeable? For the men, since when is it okay to wear an Under Armour shirt under your suit?

  1. DO find out the dress code

If you’re told to dress “black-tie formal,” that does not mean to go pick out your favorite pair blue jeans. I think that is a common sense one! (You can never put anything past anyone these days!)

  1. DON’T overdo it

It is politically impolite to invade someone’s personal bubble with your overwhelming cologne (or perfume). I want to enjoy my meal without having to gasp for air, and I’m sure anyone who has had to do that would like to attest! Also, ladies you don’t want to overdo it with your accessories. There is nothing more annoying than a girl with twenty bangles on using her hands to talk.

  1. DO Make sure you materials match

Do I need to go into depth on why suede with linen is a HUGE don’t?

  1. DON’T have nothing but club clothing items in your closet

Most likely anyone reading this article is over the age of 17, meaning you should have at least two (if not one) pair of regular slacks, a nice business casual shirt, and a nice pair of black dress shoes. It is super immature to have nothing but Fame or Forever 21 clothing in your closet with zero pair of business clothing items. Definitely a DON’T!

  1. DO Balancing out skin showing

Ladies, either the cleavage or the legs. It cannot be both. I mean, unless you were going for the escort look?!

That seems to be the end of my list! I hope that these tips were a helping hand to all of the fashion dummies. As I said at the beginning of the article, make sure you click my name to email me anymore fashion tips you’d like for me to be aware of!
