In celebration of Port Author’s very own, Chad Butler, Pimp C’s life, this week’s throwback Thursday is UGK’s “Tell Me Something Good” off The Southern Way which samples Isley Brothers’ “Summer Breeze.”
No lie, I actually picked this song earlier in the week and didn’t realize it would’ve been on the anniversary of his passing back in 2007. That was the universe.
Pimp C is a legend in Houston and gets tons of respect in the industry. His candid raps and unique country flow is something that cannot be imitated.
I remember like yesterday, studying for my finals at University of Houston, logging onto the computer lab at the library, and seeing news that Pimp C died in Los Angeles at his hotel from a lean overdose. The whole city was in mourning and “Tell Me Something Good” was one of those songs that got me into my feelings. His interviews were the best and he always talked that real.
Take a listen to this UGK classic, “Tell Me Something Good” after the break.
