This week’s throwback Thursday is dedicated to Missy Elliott‘s “Rain (Supa Fly)” which undoubtedly changed my life for the better. First off, I used to be scared of this video, specifically during the part where she’s sitting on top of the hill with those large eyes rolling around like somebody’s drunken auntie. I was scared. But I LOVED this song so much. “Beep, beep, who got the keys to the jeep?” was a regular saying around the house, at school, to adults, any time and place where I saw fitting, I was demanding to know who had the keys to the jeep.
“Rain (Supa Fly),” directed by Hype Williams, was the first single off Elliott‘s debut album Supa Dupa Fly, produced by Timbaland. The song features a sample from Anne Pebbles 1973 classic “I Can’t Stand The Rain” which can be heard repeatedly on the hook and more than likely when it rains (or maybe that’s just me who sings that part when it rains).
The video is most famously known for her trash bag suit accompanied by the helmet with shades embedded in them and the use of the fish eye lens. Very creative Hype! Get nostalgic and watch “Rain (Supa Fly)” below.
