From a young age Tone Stith would bear witness to his parents playing instruments and singing in their local church while regularly playing Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin and Prince at home. That old school-feel good sound he grew up on influenced Tone as a vocalist turning him into one of the most sought after singer-song writer in the industry, today. Penning Chris Brown‘s hit single “Liquor” has proven that his musical up bringing and all his hard work has paid off.
A huge advocate for Tone Stith’s career has been Jas Prince, the man who discovered music industry powerhouse Drake. Prince signed Tone to his record label Young Empire Music Group (Y.E.M.G) and has been mentoring him ever since and feeding him good advice.
Jas’ direction landed Tone placement on Chris Brown‘s Royalty, “Liquor” and “Make Love.” “Liquor” ended up peaking at #3 on the R&B & Hip Hop Billboard chart. Additionally, the New Jersey native opened up for Bryson Tiller‘s Trap Soul Tour this year after being recognized for his incredible cover of “Exchange,” garnering over 1.8 million plays on Soundcloud.
Right now Tone Stith and his producers the Problem Solvers are cooking up his forthcoming mixtape California 70, which is described as a funky, 70’s R&B tape. Tracks such as “I’ll Wait” and “Ooh Ahh (Thru The Door)” give listeners an idea of what to expect when California 70 is finally released.
Before he snags a Grammy, Tone sits with us and tells us all about his creative process when he’s in the studio and what it’s like working with Jas Prince.
